For the past term we have been looking at something called ‘ Navigating The Journey ‘ and lets just say we are all scared fro life. Every lesson was a nightmare and I hated talking about things that made me uncomfortable. Here is my table about the PMI ( Positive, Minus and interesting ).

For the past 2-3 weeks we have been doing a novel study and one of the groups did ‘Because Of Winn-Dixie and the’ other group did ‘Charlie Tangaroa’. I was in the group chat did Winn-Dixie first. Here is the summary so far-

CHAPTER 1-6

Opal Buloni ( the girl in the story ) a ten-year-old girl walked into a supermarket to get some macaroni she came out with a skinny under fed dog called ‘ Winn-Dixie ‘. When she was in the supermarket the manager of the Winn-Dixie supermarket started to yell ” WHO LET THAT DOG IN HERE! ” But Opal said it was her dog but it wasn’t her dog at all. When they both came home Opal said to her dad the precher ” daddy I found a dog in the supermarket today can we please keep him” the preacher was not very pleased ” we’ve talked about this before no dogs ” but Opal wanted to keep her so badly she kept her even tho the precher did not want the dog in his house. Over time the precher like the dog more and more every day they were together and Opal was happy that she could keep Winn-Dixie as her own. The next day Opal and Winn-Dixie were out on a walk and Opal said they were both like orphans beause they both don’t remember their Mums. When they got home the precher told Opal all about her mother and how they were so alike. But a few weeks after they got to got to a library and Winn-Dixie was mistaken for a bear ” Shes not a bear ” said Opal very protective of her dog.

On the 21st of November we did something called top Team and top Team was a whole bunch of challenges and at the end of the day the top Team would be awarded and they get a certificate. My activity was the sack race, in the sack race two teams had to verse each other and the one team who had the most points before the horn goes wins the game. The two finish lines were only a few mertes away from each other and each time you get over or fall over them you get 1 point, my team ended up with 10 or 11 points before the round finished. I think I was pretty fun.

But the one that I was the best at was also fun it was the giant game of tic tac toe because each time I was the third peice I kept on sliding on the grass so I could win it for the team. We won most of the games, but our team name was the best part of us ‘ The Mighty Girls ‘ beacause we had a whole team of girls no boys. The team that I was in had: Neveah, Amahri , Paige F , Pippa , Eliza and me ( Paige T ). Here is a photo of my team-

Today for art we did a little 3D house for a $500 doller prize from the hits ( its called ‘Build For Bucks’ ). To make the 3D house all we did was: 1. Print out the template 2. Coloured it in 3. Folded along the dotted lines. It’s a really fun process and very entertaining. Here is my 3D house design.

For te reo we have been learning about how to ask what others are doing. We had to do a question and answer google draw and I found it really fun. We had to take a photo of our self and then writing the sentence ” Kei the aha koe? ” which means ” what are you doing? “.  Here is my Google draw ↓

Today we did a Google Draw fish collage and we had to use shapes to make them. I found it very fun and cool to do different patterns on the fish. If you want to make one here are the instructions: 1. Choose a shape like a rounded circle 2. add little details like fins and eyes 3. colour your fish 4. have fun with them. Here are my fish

Today we were doing a practice for our eastle writing test and we had to make a google doc on cicadas so here is mine ↡

The cicada is one of the loudest bugs in the world just sitting under the sound of a chainsaw which is 110DB but the cicada is 107DB. The loudest cicada in the world is the walker cicada and if you hear the sound too loud you can have permanent hearing damage. Some of the cicadas can be very harmful to your ears if you get to hear them up close ( like the walker cicada and the north american cicada ).

Egg & Nymphs

Also before life even starts they spend 15-17 years underground depending on their type. They are born underground and then the eggs grow into nymphs ( nymphs are kind of like baby cicadas ) and the nymphs feed off the tree sap to help them grow. When they feel like they have reached their full potential they stop feeding on the sap.

MOLT

After 15-17 years they come out of the ground and then climb onto the nearest tree right above them and they start to molt. When the molt they crawl out of there shell and come out a creamy white color and their wings start to expand so the can make the proper call to find a mate.

ADULT

When their orange and brown-ish color starts to go onto their new shell they start to go find their mate for life ( well that’s only about 3-5 weeks of life ). Only male cicadas can make a call to attract a female. The male has a thing on the side of their body called a tymbal and when they want to make a sound to attract a mate they pull the tymbals ribs together and that makes a fast ticking sound. If the female wants to have the male she will respond with a click and then they will find each other and make the next generation.

Although the cicada might be slightly annoying in the mating stage just remember that the mating stage only happens every 7 years so you might want to get ready for the next mating stage. I think cicadas are really cool because they ( mostly ) tell us that it’s been 7 years since the last one happened, so get ready for the next one. BUt those bugs sure know how to make a racket!

For this week and last week we have been learning how to ask for classroom items and asking to put them away. We had to work in buddys and I worked with Caleb and I think we did a pritty good job so here is our anamation-

We have been learning about subordinating conjunctions ( which is word like when while after before etc ) If your wondering what they are here is the sentence to remember them I SAW A WABUB

Here are my sentences that incude at least one of them-

1. Since I was a cub, I knew I was born for hunting.
2. When I was little, I had a dino bed and a big dino statue outside.
3. I was peacefuly riding my trike until I saw a UFO then I let out a huge scream.
4. I had a big taco until my brother took my taco.
5. Highjump was my favourite sport until long jump came into athletics.
